This program highlights the dramatic range and profound emotional depth of AntonÃn Dvořák, spanning intimate warmth, fiery virtuosity, and sweeping symphonic power. The evening opens with the soulful, nostalgic melodies of "Going Home"—adapted from the New World Symphony and rich with American spiritual folk influences—brought to life through the rich, resonant textures of a brass quintet. The focus then turns to the brilliant Violin Concerto, where virtuosic display meets singing Czech folk rhythms in a display of soaring lyrical beauty, performed by Ondrej Lewit, Concertmaster of the 91³Ô¹ÏÍø Symphony Orchestra. Finally, the performance culminates with Dvořák’s dramatic Symphony No. 7, a heroic and turbulent masterpiece that moves from dark, tempestuous intensity to a triumphant, blazing finish.

This program offers a profound meditation on grief, grace, and ultimate solace, bridging the introspective lyricism of 20th-century Spain with the luminous spiritual serenity of turn-of-the-century France. Beginning with Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane—a delicate, elegant dance that gently sets a mood of quiet reflection. That serene French atmosphere flows seamlessly into one of the most beloved movements in all of classical music. That atmosphere deepens with the aching Adagio from JoaquÃn Rodrigo’s Concierto de Aranjuez, a work born of personal tragedy whose soaring, grief-stricken English horn lines and intimate guitar dialogue reach toward solace in the face of loss. Following intermission, Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem transforms that sorrow into transcendent peace. Departing from the thunderous judgment of traditional requiems, Fauré crafted a vision of death not as terror, but as a quiet deliverance—a gentle release into eternal light, brought to life through warm orchestral colors and soaring choral beauty.
